LTC123: health care reform and long-term care

Nursing has a long-neglected component of health insurance and retirement plans. It’s “ugly stepsister” state has been consistently in the public programs and benefits through the employer. This means that the vast majority of Americans have no possibility for the type of care if they want old, sick or injured and no longer needs daily medical care.
But that may change if legislation, up in Washington by Senator Ted Kennedy’s. For the first time the federal government could give citizens the opportunity to get in an insurance-like program. First, some background information.
Care is not covered by private health insurance and Medicare is rare (not only for the daily care and must be a connection hospitalization). Maintenance is defined as the value at more than 90 days at a setting of cognitive impairment (eg, advanced Alzheimer’s disease), or because the necessary support for the activities of daily living (eating, bathing, continence, transfers, etc.)
Although many states have tax breaks for residents who buy long term care insurance and the IRS offers tax relief for some people, and all enterprises from the scheme, only the government Medicaid program is designed to pay for this care. The catch? Medicaid is a program of evidence, with harsh financial requirements in order to qualify. That is the reason why so many people give their money because the old approach – so that they are poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. The other trick? Medicaid primarily pays for nursing home, and not for the kind of attention most people want – at home, a life, or a permanent care retirement community (CCRC).
The bill contains (in Section G) Community Living Assistance and Support Services (what an acronym for “Class”). Adults, the payment of premiums by the voluntary deduction payroll for a period of at least 60 months are entitled to benefits. Benefits of $ 50/day, and the promotion of services, advice, support and guidance.
I’m going to see the law of the category for you, and see if more is known about the extent of the law and their condition. Meanwhile, my gut tells me that this program will generate additional benefits for those who have their own long-term care planning, but if they are middle class to the rich, should not the backbone of your plan. Stay tuned, experts say that is the case!
